If any of you have been following me lately you might have noticed a trend. I have finally tweaked everything perfectly enough to take good HDR (High Dynamic Range) Pictures. HDR is amazing, I love every aspect of it. HDR photography changes the whole diversity of taking pictures, especially to landscapes. I can now take a picture of something completely random with horrible lighting and make it at least pleasing enough for your eyes to bare for a few seconds... Not that I would do that
Let's back this Journal up a bit... I just got my new camera (Nikon D5100) finally a DSLR of my own. I have a 18-55mm lens and carry around a old 75-300mm lens too, there are others but those are my favourite. This is the perfect set up for me, I do sports and landscape pictures the most, but lately macro shots have been very fun too. Although I've always wanted models for portraits and more expressive work, but there is nobody around here that would be able too. Anyways, with this set up I always just bike outside. Mostly around the west end of my little town. Take pictures of anything that catches my eye. HDR photography has always caught my eye so finally being able to do it makes me so happy and I feel like I'm finally progressing in photography.
Seeing people like Trey Ratcliff on Facebook (
www.facebook.com/treyratcliff) whom is a true inspiration to everything I do the involves HDR photography and people on DA who are at the same levels of mastering HDR just makes me want to go out and do more and more HDR photography.
Lately, I was trying lots of different bracketing and setting up for these pictures. Some without a tripod and some with. I took some close up macro images with my camera and ran them through (The old version of) Photomatix 4.5.1 Pro.
Here they are:

I have to admit, just looking at these pictures a few days after I've taken them makes me sort of mad at myself for sharing them to the world. A photographer should only show his/her best work. I haven't done that... At least with this way you can all see my progress of the years. It is like a timeline of my life in pictures!
The next days after those pictures I played around more and more with HDR. Some in-camera HDR pictures, some just Photoshoped Shadows/Highlights HDR pictures. Just playing with everything possible. I like to test every aspect of software and picture taking!
Here are some from those days:
There are more, but I'm sure you get the picture (no pun intended). So it's been about two weeks with this camera, a total of two weeks of playing around and having fun and graduating and all that jazz.
If your still reading and following what I'm trying to say (I'm not a good writer) I want to present to you what I have done with my camera now that I have the perfect set up (for now).
Today was a great day, I slept in and worked. I wanted to go take pictures, but it was raining. At about 9 it stopped raining, so I followed my routine, biked down to the dry land sort. It was still grey and I knew the sunset would be coming, but as you will see I never expected it to be as glorious as it was.
Here are some HDR pictures, now that I know how to use HDR right (I hope) and they are a milestone of having my camera for about two weeks now:
There are more, but you'll have to dig through my gallery to find them! I hope you enjoy my story. It's getting late and I have a physics exam to study for. Please stay tuned for more updates and more pictures. I hope they speak to you as they do to me. I will be taking lots now that I'm finally happy with my setup!
Thanks for reading and don't stop smiling <3
